An interesting information has come out that India’s star player Suryakumar asked the young player of South Africa, Dewalt Brevis, “I have tried to play like you many times, but I have not been able to.
South Africa’s young all-rounder Devald Previs ended the World Cup series as the top run-scorer in the 2022 U19 World Cup with 506 runs at an average of 84.33. Then Mumbai Indians of the IPL, who wanted to tap into the talent of the young player, introduced him in the IPL last year for MI.
Previs, an uncapped South African, made his IPL debut against Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders on 6 April 2022. In the first match, he scored 29 runs off 19 balls. And in that match, KKR’s star spinner Varun Chakraborty impressed the audience with a different shot. Since then, Brevis has played that shot on several occasions.
In this case, the Mumbai Indians team management has released a video of Suryakumar and Previs chatting on their official YouTube channel. In the hilarious video, which runs for over 10 minutes, Suryakumar Yadav questions the 19-year-old about his favorite shot, the “no-look shot”.
Talking to Previs, Suryakumar Yadav asks, “I try to copy you sometimes. I try to play the way you bat. You have to teach me something. How to do your no-look shot, no-look six? I want to learn that from you.”
Previs shared some interesting facts about Suryakumar Yadav’s 360 degree shot, which he considered as an honor.
Speaking to Suryakumar Yadav, Brevis said, “I love it. It’s a great honor, but I want to learn a lot of scenes from you. I want to tell you a funny story about this. My no-look happens without looking. I don’t know how that happens either. That’s how my no-look goes differently. I always act on the feeling that it helps if I keep my head down. And then it happens,” joked young player Previs.
Brevis scored 162 runs in the T20 match!
In October 2022, Brevis scored his highest T20 score in South Africa’s domestic T20 tournament, the CSA T20 series. A Titans batsman in the match against the Knights, he scored 162 runs off 57 balls at a strike rate of 284.21, the third highest in any T20 format.
Speaking about his impressive performance in the domestic T20s, Previs said, “I didn’t even know what I was doing at that time. I think everything happened automatically for me at that moment. I played every ball on time. Ball after ball I tried it. Then at the end, I said to my teammate, ‘I’m going to try to hit every ball for a six now,'” he said.
Previs and Suryakumar Yadav have been retained by Mumbai Indians for IPL 2023. Both will be crucial in MI’s middle-order to score big runs in the upcoming IPL series.
