Botafogo, led by Artur Jorge, managed only a draw against Bahia (1-1) in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 16. The Portuguese team started well, with a goal from Carlos Alberto in the 8th minute, but Bahia equalized before halftime through Cauly (45’+1). At the end of the match, the Portuguese coach was booed by Botafogo fans.
“We know it is based on results. It is our job to bring joy so we can be applauded and supported by the fans,” said Artur Jorge after the final whistle, before analyzing the game, the third consecutive match that Botafogo failed to win.
“We have shown some restlessness, some rashness, we lost the ball too early and made several poor decisions. We are doing some things I don’t like, a very direct game. We need to find balance, we are not at our best moment. There could be many reasons to justify this, but I have to find solutions because it is true that our performance is declining.”
Remember that, before the match with Bahia, Botafogo had lost to Cruzeiro (3-0) and drawn with São Paulo (2-2) in the Brasileirão. The second leg of the Copa do Brasil will be played on August 7 (11 PM).
