Botafogo lost. The team didn’t know what that was for a long time. There were 15 unbeaten matches until Goiás, which started the sixth round in the relegation zone of the Brazilian Championship, overturned the undefeated streak of the team from Rio this Sunday (14), with a 2-1 comeback victory in Goiânia.
The last Botafogo defeat before this one had happened against Portuguesa, on March 8, for the Carioca Championship.
Within the unshakable sequence, Botafogo started Nacional with five consecutive victories and had the chance to set a record if they beat Goiás. No team has ever won six games in a row at the start of the tournament in the consecutive points era that began in 2003.
Without big stars and with a questioned coach, Botafogo did not start the Brazilian Championship as one of the favorites, but began to pile up victories. He passed through São Paulo, Bahia, Flamengo, Atlético Mineiro and Corinthians.
