The Botafogo fans breathed a sigh of relief with the 3-1 victory over Universitario-PERthis Wednesday (24), for the third round of group D of the Copa Libertadores da América.
The triumph is the Rio team’s first in the group stage, after losing the first two games. Therefore, the mission at Nilton Santos was to win or win. A stumble could lead to early elimination.
The victory at home came with two goals at the beginning of the second half, scored by Eduardo and Luiz Henrique, this one in a beautiful play. In stoppage time, two more goals: Eduardo scored once again and Olivares scored the Peruvians’ honor.

Now, Botafogo has 3 points and remains at the bottom of group D, which is in a mess. LDU and Universitario have 4 points, while the leader, Junior Barranquilla, has 5 points.
In the next round, on May 8, the Rio team will face Universitario itself, now in Peru. A victory would take Botafogo to the group classification zone.
