Last Saturday evening, a 7-month-old boy suffered a head injury in Mažeikiai and was initially brought to Šiauliai hospital, but as his condition became more and more alarming, he was transferred to Kaunas clinics. He is still being treated in this institution.

According to the parents, the son was injured after falling out of bed.

The police officers have collected material regarding the health disturbance, but they have not yet started the pre-trial investigation – Gailutė Smagriūnienė, chief specialist of the Šiauliai County Chief Police Commissariat, informed the news portal lrytas.lt on Thursday that it is currently being decided whether it is appropriate to file a criminal case, and the officers are investigating the circumstances of the injury.

The Mazeiki family was not known to the police until now.

The authorities have no information that violence may have been used against the baby.

Disaster in the vicinity of Garliava

Another painful case was recorded on Tuesday evening in the Kaunas district, in the vicinity of Garliava, when a 4-year-old boy was injured while playing in the yard near the house.

A child who carelessly played with an electrical device was hospitalized in Kaunas clinics.

According to preliminary data, the family is also in good order, it had not come under the gaze of law enforcement officials before.

The police have collected material on the possible negligent behavior of the parents, but the criminal case has not yet been filed either.

The baby’s condition caused concern

Another child was injured in a Panevėžys apartment building – a 5-month-old girl suffered injuries early Wednesday morning, around 5 o’clock.

According to the parents, the daughter fell out of bed at home. The father called for help almost 2 hours after the injury, when the girl did not stop crying: the relatives were worried about the risk of complications.

The baby was immediately taken to Panevėžys hospital. According to preliminary data, he suffered a head injury and other injuries.

The girl is admitted to the Pediatric Surgery Department and may need surgery. The police have filed a case of disorderly health.

There is no evidence that violence may have been used against the child – the authorities tend to believe that an accident occurred, but everything will finally become clear after the investigation.

“Parents should be extremely careful not to leave young children, and especially babies, unattended. Even if you lose vigilance for a short time, the consequences can be painful”, pointed out Odeta Jukniūtė, Head of the Communication Sub-Department of Panevėžys County Chief Police Commissariat.

This is the fourth accident this year in the territory supervised by the Chief Police Commissariat of Panevėžys County, where very young children are affected.
