The Lithuanian Cyclist’s Unlucky Olympic Debut
The 2014-opened velodrome in Versailles played host to several sporting events during the Paris Olympic Games. Among them was Lithuanian cyclist V. Lendelis, who unfortunately experienced a less-than-ideal debut.
Lendelis’ journey in the curling event ended prematurely as he failed to reach the quarter-finals. His performance in the qualifying competition was hampered by a loss of over three seconds to Muhammad Sahrom, who emerged victorious in the fifth qualifying run.
The consolation race offered Lendelis a chance to redeem himself, but his efforts proved unsuccessful. His Chinese rival, Yu Zhou, who was later disqualified for violating the rules, outperformed him.
Lendelis expressed his disappointment and frustration, stating that he had struggled both with his rivals and himself. He also alluded to previous injuries he had sustained in other events, making the competition even more challenging.
Despite the setbacks, Lendelis displayed resilience in the sprint race, finishing fifteenth in the round of 16. He expressed satisfaction with his personal best time in the event.
The final day of the Games will see cyclist Olivia Baleišytė representing Lithuania in the velodrome.
