The online bank Boursorama has been served formal notice by the National Commission for Computing and Liberties (CNIL) for having asked certain customers for their username and password for the government tax site, revealed the specialized media Next INpact, Thursday, August 31. Information confirmed by concordant sources at Agence France-Presse (AFP).
“We fully intend to comply with it”, reacted Xavier Prin, communication manager of the bank, declaring that he had received the formal notice from the CNIL in August. The administrative authority which ensures respect for privacy confirmed the procedure but without providing further details, as the formal notice was not public.
To obtain a consumer loan more quickly, Boursorama has offered since June 2022 to its customers who have not domiciled their income with it to provide it directly with the username and password for their account on the tax site. By fetching the information it needs at the source, the bank saves time, especially on verification, because it does not have to ensure the authenticity of the document, explained Mr. Prin. But this possibility remained optional and was done in the secure environment of the website, he said.
“For us, we respect our obligations to protect, minimize [seules les données nécessaires sont collectées, avant d’être détruites] and safety”he argued.
This formal notice comes in a context where it is constantly reminded to each Internet user never to give their passwords to anyone, recalls the site Next INpact.
