Kareena Kapoor’s ‘The Buckingham Murders’ released in theatres on Friday, September 13, but it has proved to be the weakest film of her 24-year career. On the opening day, it has earned less than the actress’ debut film ‘Refugee’. Despite being an action-thriller, ‘The Buckingham Murders’, directed by Hansal Mehta, has flopped at the box office on the very first day. In ‘The Buckingham Murders’, Kareena has played the role of a British-Indian detective. She plays a mother who has lost her child and is now investigating the murder of a child in Buckinghamshire. The plot of the film is interesting, but before the release, the film did not get the kind of buzz in the market that was needed. Therefore, the advance booking was also very dull.

According to the report of sacnilk, ‘The Buckingham Murders’ has collected a net of only Rs 1.15 crore on the opening day in the country. The number of viewers in the theatres was also very less. On an average, only about 10 out of 100 seats were occupied in every show. This is unfortunate, because Kareena’s character and her acting in the film are being highly praised. In such a situation, now everything depends on word of mouth.

‘Refugee’ earned more than ‘The Buckingham Murders’ on opening day
It is also worth noting here that Kareena debuted in the year 2000 with the film ‘Refugee’. Abhishek Bachchan was with her in this film directed by JP Dutta. 24 years ago, this film also had a net collection of Rs 1.52 crore on its opening day. But ‘The Buckingham Murders’ has done even less business than this. Then, this film made in a budget of 14 crores did a business of 17.01 crores in the country and was average.

The budget of ‘The Buckingham Murders’ is said to be Rs 40 crore. In such a situation, if this film has to be a hit, then it will have to make a net collection of at least Rs 50 crore. But unfortunately, looking at the opening day earnings, it seems that this is not possible. However, the film still has a chance, if it woos the audience during the weekend and moves ahead on the basis of word of mouth, then the result can change. Especially when there is no other big film in the theatres except ‘Stree 2’ which is already a month old.
Kareena has become a producer for the first time with ‘The Buckingham Murders’
‘The Buckingham Murders’ was being made since 2022 and most of the film was shot in London. Kareena Kapoor has also made her debut as a producer with this film. Apart from her, the film also stars Keith Allen, Ranveer Brar, Prabhleen Sandhu and Rukku Nahar in lead roles. This action thriller premiered at the 67th BFI London Film Festival on 14 October 2023 and even then it received a lot of praise.
