Alekseevs will try to protect his perfect record (16-0-0) and win the first title in his career. This will be the main battle Fira de Canals Boxing Trophy at the event, which will take place on September 28 at the Pabellon Municipal Arena in Canals, province of Valencia.

Alekseevs and Abdulaevs will enter the ring around 23:30 Latvian time, fighting in ten rounds. Each of them will last three minutes.

The 31-year-old Latvian athlete, who trains under Roman Anučina, defeated Argentine Marcelo Herman Rodriguez in his last fight so far on April 20 in Valencia, convincingly winning by technical knockout in the fourth round.

Aleksejev was born in Riga and started his career as a kickboxer. In 2008, the athlete won the title of European champion among juniors, however, a broken leg seven years later forced him to change his discipline. The athlete with the nickname “The Hurricane” made his boxing debut 11 years ago, during which time 56.25% of his fights ended with a knockout. According to BoxRec, Alekseev is ranked 107th in the world in his weight class.

Abdulaev is three years older but has less experience in the ring, 11 professional fights to Alekseev’s 16. The German is known for his powerful left jab and is very dangerous, finishing 10 of his 11 fights by knockout. The Armenian-born boxer from Lower Saxony is currently ranked #242 on BoxRec.

“I think this is the most important fight of my life. The IBO European Championship is at stake. I’m sure my undefeated opponent hates to lose. But I will be there to take what is due to me, and he will have to lose for the first time,” says Alekseev before the fight.

The IBO is an independent boxing organization that determines and oversees professional boxing fights around the world. The IBO recognizes not only world champions, but also regional champions, including Intercontinental champions. The governing bodies of the “big four” boxing (WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO) do not recognize the IBO. Despite this, as of 2023, the IBO title has been combined with three of the four (WBA, IBF and WBO) in multiple weight classes. A number of boxing legends including Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Floyd Mayweather and Tyson Fury won and held IBO belts.
