Boxing Controversy: IBA Confirms Two Boxers Disqualified for Failing Gender Eligibility Tests

“We shared the laboratory results with the IOC last year. Since 2022, there have been doubts and concerns from some boxers, at which point we conducted blood tests and gender tests on both boxers Imane Khelif and Lin Uon Ting. Additionally, we repeated the tests in 2023. These tests showed that the boxers did not meet the eligibility criteria and that is why they were excluded from the World Championships.” With these words, the CEO of IBA, Chros Roberts, reiterated in a videoconference that the two boxers “are men.” For his part, Loannis Filippatos, former president of the IBA medical committee and gynecologist, criticized the IOC for using passports as a system to determine gender. “Boxing is a contact sport.
