Putting on gloves, getting into a ring, that’s the definition of happiness for Maloway Canlers, 20 years old. To the point that she has devoted her life to it since Michaël Weus, the coach of Roc Boxe, spotted her while she was practicing Thai boxing. She was 14 years old and her potential immediately caught the eye of the Royan coach. “My mother didn’t want me to box, she was afraid that I would get hit,” says the young woman. But I won my first fight only five months after I started so I took that as encouragement and didn’t stop. »
Until this Saturday, December 16, when she beat Océane Creyx de Pessac at the Alain-Mimoun complex in Deuil-la-Barre (Val-d’Oise). A victory which crowned her champion of France Elite amateur under 50 kg.

A new source of pride for the Royan club which trained Makan Traoré, future participant in the Paris Olympics. Makan who became a role model for Maloway. To the point of wanting to follow in his footsteps? “She has significant room for improvement,” reacts Michaël Weus. She can still join the Pôle France and then access the highest levels of competition. But for that, she must learn to manage her stress. »
The champion nods. She lacks self-confidence, she knows it, she is working on it. Were it not for this slight mental problem, Maloway trains hard and demonstrates a self-sacrifice that commands the admiration of those around him. “Sometimes, we come back from a fight, whether she won or lost, she goes straight to the gym,” comments Michaël Weus. She is incredibly diligent. »
In addition to her trainer, she can count on the good advice of Romain Rohé and John Lasserre for physical preparation. And as courage is also measured in daily life, Maloway divides her time between several jobs and helps her parents on weekends in the markets.
Today, his goal is to shine during the Coupe de France amateur which will take place at the end of January in Saint-Avold in Alsace. A competition which is open to foreign boxers and which will allow Maloway Canlers to test his fists on new opponents in his category.
Roc Boxe, which she does not consider “as a club but a family”, will support her until the end, whatever happens.
