Companies bp and socar working together on methane emissions technology and reporting.
As Day.Az reports with reference to Trend, this was announced at the conference “Methane Progress: Progress on Global Methane Reduction” BP Vice President for the Caspian region said at the Baku Climate Action Week Bakhtiyar Aslanbeyli.
According to him, BP has been actively using new sensors and drones since 2024 to monitor possible methane emissions at its facilities at sea and onshore in Azerbaijan and will continue to work in this direction.
Aslanbeyli also emphasized that productive cooperation with SOCAR on green energy transition issues brings positive results.
It should be noted that Azerbaijan initiated the signing of the Methane Declaration during the upcoming COP29, and also took the initiative to reduce methane emissions in food production.
Last week in New York, the IEA and the COP29 Presidency hosted a high-level event on methane on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
It was noted that SOCAR’s active steps on various methods of monitoring methane emissions and suppressing emissions are welcomed by the IEA.
