BP CEO Murray Auchincloss is on a planned two-day working visit to Azerbaijan and is discussing the company’s plans for a long-term partnership, Day.Az reported on Wednesday, citing a BP message.

“Murray Auchincloss met with President Ilham Aliyev this morning to discuss bp’s business development in the region as a whole. Auchincloss reaffirmed bp’s commitment to working with Azerbaijan, sharing the company’s plans for a long-term partnership, its intentions to jointly explore low-carbon energy solutions and other opportunities to support the country’s efforts to transition to green energy,” the information noted.

During the visit, the BP CEO is accompanied by Gordon Birrell, the company’s executive vice president of manufacturing and operations.

“During the meeting with the President of Azerbaijan, Auchincloss spoke about the current activities and prospects for further development of the world-class Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and Shah Deniz fields. He also discussed the Shafag solar power plant (SPP) project in the Jabrayil region of Azerbaijan, which will contribute to the electrification of the Sangachal terminal, operated by bp, as part of Azerbaijan’s and bp’s commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” the press release stated.

The CEO of BP has already held a meeting with the Minister of Economy Mikail Jabbarov and the CEO of SOCAR Rovshan Najaf to discuss the progress of projects in Azerbaijan.

During his visit, Auchincloss will hold a number of internal meetings, including a meeting with bp management in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, as well as a meeting with bp regional staff.

Auchincloss also plans to visit the Sangachal terminal.
