“As an operator, we are proud to say that safe and efficient gas production continues at Shah Deniz. Last year, production at this giant field exceeded 26 billion cubic meters of gas, reaching stable levels. Today, at Shah Deniz facilities it is possible produce about 79 million standard cubic meters of gas per day. Just two weeks ago, we launched the remaining fifth flank at Shah Deniz – east-north. There are plans to activate two more wells on this flank within a year,” she said.

Papalexandri noted that along with increasing production at the Shah Deniz field, BP is also looking for large volumes of gas in the lower layers.

“To do this, we drilled one of the deepest exploration wells in the Caspian – SDX-8, reaching a depth of almost 7 thousand meters from the seabed. We are now analyzing the data to understand how much more gas these layers may contain. We are also looking for potential new sources gas outside Shah Deniz,” she added.
