The bp-Azerbaijan company, as the operator of the development of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block of Caspian fields, plans to begin drilling the first production well for gas production (deep-gas) from the deep-seated formations of the block in the second half of 2024.

As Day.Az reported on Friday with reference to Trend, Jim O’Leary, vice president of BP for drilling wells in the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey region, told reporters about this. In his opinion, the first gas from deep-gas ACG can be obtained at the beginning of 2025.

Let us recall that in 2022-2023, in order to obtain certain information about deep-gas, the “A22z” appraisal well was drilled, and the data obtained from it is being interpreted. Drilling of a production well for deep-gas will be carried out from the Western Chirag platform. Deep-gas reserves at ACG are projected at 300 billion cubic meters, but, according to preliminary estimates, directly recoverable resources could amount to about 100 billion cubic meters.

The ACG block is being developed until December 2049 on the basis of a PSA contract.
