jpnn.comJAKARTA – Epidemiologist Dicky Budiman said that the BPOM’s move to require the inclusion of potential BPA hazards on the labels of drinking water in polycarbonate packaging is the right and important thing to do in protecting public health.

“The first thing to talk about is the BPA or bisphenol A free label on product packaging, which is actually a fairly appropriate step or policy in the context of public health,” said Dicky.

The reason is, BPA is a chemical compound used in the production of plastics, both polycarbonate and epoxy resin, which are often found in food and beverage packaging. It does act as an endocrine disruptor, which means it can disrupt hormonal function in the human body.

He said BPOM’s move to require the inclusion of BPA-free labels was a significant development in the regulation of hazardous chemicals in Indonesia to improve consumer protection.

“The presence of this BPA-free label will provide important information to consumers who want to avoid potential health risks from BPA exposure,” he explained.

Dicky emphasized that the policy is a form of government responsibility to provide health protection to the public and consumers so that they can determine safer product choices.

In addition, it will encourage transparency in the production process of packaged food and beverages.

For this reason, the policies that have been taken by the government to protect the public from these health risks need to be supported by all parties.
