Kochi> The National Green Tribunal imposed a fine of Rs 100 crore on the Kochi Corporation in the Brahmapuram fire. The amount should be deposited before the Chief Secretary within one month. The amount should be used to solve the health problems caused by the calamity. The tribunal also directed that criminal action be taken against the officials responsible. The matter was considered under the leadership of Justice Adarsh Kumar Goyal, Chairman of the Tribunal Principal Bench. Additional Chief Secretary V Venu had given an affidavit that the fire was extinguished on 13th and the situation is under control. The state government has also informed the tribunal that it has taken necessary steps to reduce the amount of organic waste being brought to the plant. The Green Tribunal has voluntarily filed a case on the basis of media reports on the Brahmapuram issue. The State Government has informed the Green Tribunal that proceedings are in progress in the Kerala High Court in this matter.
