Brandenburg: Confectionery chain: Hussel, Eilles and Arko are insolvent

The Hussel, Arko and Eilles retail chains have filed for bankruptcy. All three belong to Deutsche Confiserie Holding. There are around two dozen branches in Berlin and Brandenburg.

The confectionery, coffee and tea companies Arko, Hussel and Eilles of Deutsche Confiserie Holding have filed for bankruptcy. The applications to the Norderstedt district court were published on Friday in the official insolvency portal “Insolvency Notices”.

Already insolvent in 2021

The northern German Arko GmbH as a coffee retailer, Hussel GmbH as a confectionery and confectionery specialist and Eilles GmbH & CO. KG, as a tea seller, has around 300 branches across Germany. The Hamburg lawyer Dietmar Penzlin was appointed as the provisional insolvency administrator. This is the second insolvency procedure within a short period of time. In 2021, Arko, Hussel and Eilles filed for bankruptcy on their own as a result of the Corona crisis and were ultimately able to save themselves.
Arko and Eilles took over Hussel in September 2018. The merger should create “attractive economies of scale” and “foundation for shared growth.” Arko was founded in 1948 in Wahlstedt, Hussel in 1949 in Hagen. Eilles took over Arko from JJ Darboven in 2016.

Around 1,200 employees nationwide were affected

A report from the “Business Week” [wiwo.de] According to this, the three companies with headquarters in Wahlstedt, Schleswig-Holstein, have around 1,200 employees. Their wages and salaries are now secured for three months through the insolvency benefit.
According to the business magazine, consumers’ reluctance to buy has exacerbated the company’s crisis in recent months. The Christmas business is said to have been unsatisfactory.
