While speaking to the Indian media, Bratya Basu asked, “If something like this happens at the central level, if they have an award from the central government, will they return it?”

Political identity was not taken into consideration while awarding the award. Referring to this information, Bratya Basu said, ‘Rejection is a personal matter. The theater who did, welcome his decision. On behalf of our Natya Academy, I can say that despite him being from the Left Front, the Trinamool government did not discriminate in his case while awarding the award. He did not judge his artistic achievements in terms of political identity. He has democratic rights. He can surely return. We can say that we did not make a political judgment in his case.’

Calling for the return of not only the award given by the state government, but also the award given by the central government, Bratya Basu said, ‘Everyone has the right, I do not want to make any oblique, slanderous comments towards them. Let’s just say, they did their job. Let’s hope, if such a heinous incident happens at the central level and if they have any awards from the central government, they will also return them.’
