Selma Woman Battles Rare Nervous System Disease, Makes Miraculous Recovery

Teah Bautista, a 25-year-old woman from Selma, California, has just returned home after a fierce battle with a rare disease that attacks the nervous system. After spending over two weeks at Kaiser Permanente in Fresno, Bautista is now back with her family, continuing her recovery and rehabilitation.

Bautista’s journey began over six months ago when she found herself admitted to Kaiser’s Intensive Care Unit. Despite being young and healthy, she was hooked up to multiple tubes and wires, struggling to move or even breathe. It was a terrifying experience for both her and her parents.

“I was just like ‘Okay, I lived a happy life, you know, I did what I did. This is all I can do. If I go home with the Lord, then that’s fine,” Bautista remembered of her time in the hospital.

Doctors eventually diagnosed Bautista with a rare condition called MOGAD, short for Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody Associated Disease. This disease attacks the lining of the nerves throughout the central nervous system, leading to severe breakdowns in mobility and bodily function.

After being discharged from the hospital, Bautista commenced intensive rehabilitation at San Joaquin Valley Rehabilitation Hospital. Despite the odds, she has made remarkable progress, going from a wheelchair to a walker, and now occasionally using a cane.

“It’s going amazing,” she said. “They actually, if you go on to their website, they actually did a success story on me!”

Bautista’s recovery has been nothing short of miraculous, and she credits her faith, her family, and the exceptional care she received at Kaiser for her fighting spirit.

“As she continues to recover, Bautista and her family can only smile — knowing God wasn’t ready to take her from the world,” the report concludes.
