She was so drunk she blew up a house. A Canadian woman who caused $10 million in damages by driving drunk, crashing into a house and causing an explosion, is now suing the concert hall that provided her with alcoholic beverages – as she claims the owners are to blame.

The incident occurred in August 2019 while Danielle Lace, 26, was driving home from a Marilyn Manson concert at the Budweiser Gardens Arena in London, Ontario, CBC reported.

After drinking at a concert and getting behind the wheel, Lace crashed her car into a brick house. As a result of the impact, the vehicle ruptured a gas line, which caused a massive explosion that destroyed four houses and injured seven people.

The fire damage also caused damage to nearby houses and the entire neighborhood had to evacuate. In total, according to reports, the explosion caused around $9.8 million in damages and up to far-reaching estimates of $14.7 million.

“The financial impact of Leys’ actions was enormous, with a total damage estimate approaching $15 million,” Judge George Orsini said in court.
Meanwhile, the victims included two police officers and two firefighters who suffered multiple injuries, with one firefighter having to spend more than a week in hospital before being released.

Leys pleaded guilty to four counts of impaired driving and was sentenced to a three-year prison term in 2021.

However, this month, Lace and her father Shawn filed a lawsuit against Ovations Ontario Food Services, the company that supplied the alcohol. According to them, the employees provided her with the alcohol and when they “kicked Leis out of the place, they did not take steps to ensure that she did not drive home,” the lawsuit states.

Additionally, Lace claimed that they continued to serve her alcohol knowing she was intoxicated and accused them of putting “profit over safety” and that the resulting damage was “caused or contributed to by their negligence.”
