The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, said that Brazil is the protagonist of the energy transition in the world and therefore cannot miss the window of opportunities that currently exists. According to him, the country has political stability, legal security, respects contracts and is therefore safe to invest in, in addition to being very well positioned geopolitically, considering the crises occurring in Europe, Africa and Asia.

“There is no path outside the new economy, which is the energy transition economy, which we are calling fair and inclusive, because Brazilians – we are being very careful about this – cannot pay dearly for this transition. Quite the contrary, it has to be a window of opportunities”, he stated when participating in the Seminar on Investments, Governance and Legal Aspects of Complementary Pensions, at the Convention Center of the Hotel Prodigy Santos Dumont, in the center of Rio de Janeiro.

Decarbonization

Silveira said that investors should pay attention to the move made by the Brazilian government when sending a bill to Congress, called fuel of the future, which integrates all decarbonization policies in the country’s mobility and transport matrix. “It is important that investors address this by creating a mandate for biorefinery investments in green diesel, creating a mandate for sustainable green aviation fuel,” he commented.

According to the minister, the country cannot miss the opportunity to reconcile the issue of sustainability with economic development and social achievements. “We cannot stop seeing our reality. We have an unequal country with great social differences. A country with a brutal economic gap, which is not good for any of us”, he assessed.

Investments

In the minister’s view, there is an abundance of capital wanting to come to Brazil and there is very fertile ground for this. “Brazil now has a great opportunity, because it has the right leader, in the right place. President Lula focused on international politics in these first months and, in my opinion as a citizen, not as a Minister of State, in an extremely assertive way. Brazil was heading towards international isolation and we know that in a globalized world this is unsustainable,” he said.

“We need to dialogue with the world and we want to dialogue standing up, in a proud way, looking into the eyes of the industrialized countries, which for a series of issues do not have the same conditions to contribute to safeguarding the planet as we do and [de] lead the global south that can precipitate the energy transition.”

For the minister, accelerating the energy transition can be done through the monetization of green and sustainable products. “That’s where Brazil comes out ahead. It is completely different to fuel an electric car in Brazil with an energy matrix of 88% clean and renewable energy and to fuel it in Germany”, he compared.

Power transmission

At the seminar, Silveira warned that the country should have already strengthened the national transmission system and is failing to produce more clean and renewable energy in the Northeast, but also industrializing that region with emphasis on green hydrogen, due to the lack of robustness of the line. transmission. This problem, according to him, should be alleviated by the new transmission line auctions already planned.

Another guarantee given by the minister is the strict respect for environmental issues and legislation, which, as he considered, does not impede economic activity. “That’s common sense. This is the policy that builds. Extremes, I always emphasize this, do not create effective results for society. We can’t even have taboos when discussing environmental issues, that is, I can’t, because I don’t like it or because I want to make a sometimes politically correct speech and say that I can give up the riches and the need for the source of gas so important”, he argued.

According to the minister, there also needs to be dialogue and a search for convergence to discuss society’s real problems. “Nor opening the gate to let the cattle pass, nor having any taboos or personal opinions that prevent Brazil from developing. Virtue is in the middle, and virtue is building a developed country that promotes social inclusion. The only way to achieve this inclusion consistently is through the generation of employment and income with opportunities.”

SIN

Silveira said that Brazil has the best integrated energy system in the world, which is the National Integrated System (SIN). In a country with continental dimensions, only the state of Roraima is not included, but even so, as he stated, it will only be for a short time, because, after 11 years of licensing, the government gave the work order and the works are in progress , with the expectation of inaugurating the transmission line from Manaus to Boa Vista in a maximum of a year and a half, interconnecting the whole of Brazil.

South America

The minister added that in both electricity and gas, as a pragmatic matter, Brazil wants interconnection in South America. “We, in times of water difficulties, energy difficulties, can be helped by our brothers in South America. ”, he indicated.
