Brazil recorded 4,482 human rights violations against trans people over the past year, according to data from Dial 100, a reporting channel run by the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship.

The states that had the highest recurrence of reported cases were São Paulo (25%), Bahia (16%) and Rio de Janeiro (14%).

According to data from the ministry, there were 784 incidents linked to psychic torture, 762 warning that the victim suffered some type of embarrassment and 564 records indicating discrimination. Threats, insults, exposure to health risks and physical aggression were also recorded.

The ministry assesses that these numbers may indicate underreporting, and warns people to use Dial 100. that we increasingly have more efficient and plural policies”, says Symmy Larrat, national secretary for the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People.

On the occasion of trans visibility month, the ministry is organizing a series of actions from Monday (29), including the holding of seminars, the launch of a dossier with data on violence against transvestites and transsexuals and the delivery of the Fernanda Benvenutty trophy .
