RIO DE JANEIRO, Xinhua) — Brazil intends to resume relations with Africa, abandoned in recent years, and “reach a new level of strategic relations,” the country’s president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, said today.
The ruler, who is on an official visit to Angola, wrote on social networks that “in recent years, unfortunately, previous governments abandoned relations with African countries.”
“We are going to change that. We are going to reach a new level of strategic relations. The agricultural revolution that Angola needs to carry out will have the cooperation of Brazil, for example”, Lula deepened.
He added that the South American country will seek “partners in the Brazilian private sector to complete the necessary irrigation structure for Angola, with environmental protection and sustainable development.”
“Instead of specific and isolated initiatives, the program will bring together 25 actions that complement each other, all with the aim of promoting agricultural development in this region,” he commented.
Lula stressed that the program “will include everything from agricultural research to training for the implementation of credit policies for small producers.”
The Brazilian president recalled that “the Cunene Valley is similar to the Sao Francisco Valley in Brazil, a region historically affected by droughts that has become a food-producing center.”
According to Lula, Brazil is the ideal partner. “We face similar challenges. Today we have technological experience and public policies to share with Angola”.
Speaking to the press after meeting with the Angolan president, Joao Manuel Lourenço, Lula stated that “the priority is to carry out an agricultural revolution in the country to guarantee economic growth and food security for the population.”
During today’s meeting, the presidents of both countries signed seven cooperation agreements in the fields of diplomacy, tourism, health, agriculture, education, support for small and medium-sized companies, and export promotion.
