Cármen underlined that over 488 thousand ballot boxes were used today, with a limited number of exchanges. “As we know, we have ballot integrity testing, which is another tool. It is not the only one, nor is it essential, but it is another tool to reaffirm the integrity of the ballot boxes and, from 2022, we also have the integrity test with biometric data in which we invite voters to participate with us,” he said , adding that of these tests, 2,500 were carried out with volunteer voters and 104 inspectors followed up the integrity test with biometric data.

“I myself followed the start of work in Belo Horizonte this morning and, therefore, everything went according to plan. Now, at the end of the afternoon, I knew that there was some problem, I don’t seem to know exactly yet, in Maranhão, but not with the test, only with the filming of the test,” he commented.

We have had a return to normal democracy, without depreciation of the institutions, says Cármen Lúcia

The TSE president also argued that the current municipal elections symbolize the resumption of democracy as normality, the non-depreciation of institutions. “I think we are working and moving permanently towards democratic normality AND democracy as normal,” he said, who is also minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), during a press conference to comment on the result of the first round of municipal elections . held today across the country.

Cármen said once again that democracy must be praised, because no other regime has been found that is better than this one. “We live under a regime that allows us to be free to be what we want to be. We therefore return to the condition of considering institutions normal, valid and not depreciating in the search for a break with democratic institutions, which only goes against society itself and the desire of every citizen,” he assessed.

The Minister also reiterated the importance of citizens knowing that, through elections, they can participate in democracy. “The certainty that he will exercise a right, an important right for his life, for the life of those who came before and who obtained this right”.
