Brazilian Alison dos Santos was crowned world champion in the 400m hurdles with the third best time of all time, 46 sec 29, the reigning Olympic champion Karsten Warholm finishing only seventh, in Eugene (Oregon) on Tuesday July 19. Dos Santos edged out two Americans, Rai Benjamin (46.89) and Trevor Bassitt (47.39). Warholm, also outgoing double world champion and world record holder (45.94) but whose preparation was turned upside down by a muscle injury, only completed his race in 48 sec 42. My preparation for the Olympics had been good (3e), I was ready, but two guys had run faster than me! I knew I should run faster here, be in great shape. You’ve seen how hard it is to win. I changed my race, worked on my speed, my technique on hurdles, I know I can be even faster. I’m happy to have won in front of my niece and my nephew, I took such pleasure in sharing this with my family said Alison dos Santos.
