The Lecar 459 Hybrid, a range-extending electric crossover that promises a maximum range of 1,000 kilometers, doesn’t come from the US, Germany, the Republic of Korea, Japan or China, but from Brazil. The Lecar 459 Hybrid has a 530 liter luggage compartment and a wheelbase of 2.7 meters. Viewed from the side, the Brazilian crossover strongly resembles the Tesla Model Y, although it is much smaller.
Lecar intends to introduce the Lecar 459 Hybrid at least on the domestic market in 2026. The Lecar 459 Hybrid has an electric drive, but it also has a small gasoline engine that functions as a range extender ie. charges the electric motor when the battery starts to run down.
The drive of the Lecar 459 Hybrid is an electric motor with a power of 163 hp. and 258 Nm, which drives the rear wheels. This engine is powerful enough to help the electric crossover, which weighs just 1,396 kilograms and is 4.35 meters long, reach a speed of 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds. The car has an 18.4 kWh battery. The gasoline engine is a 1.0 three-cylinder, which, in addition to gasoline, also runs on ethanol. Thanks to the turbo, it has a power of 116 hp. and 200 Nm and was developed by Horse Powertrain Limited, a company in which both Renault and Geely each have a 45 percent stake. The remaining ten percent is owned by Aramco. The pure electric range is 100 kilometers. The fuel tank has a capacity of 35 liters.
