Two resolutions approved by the National Council of Justice in December establish rules to expand the presence of women in the Judiciary and guarantee the application of racial quotas. These initiatives are added to other measures to promote diversity approved by the body throughout 2023, which will also come into force this year.

In September, the CNJ instituted gender alternation in merit-based promotions of career judges in state, federal and labor justice. This measure must be implemented starting this month. In December, the Council approved another change so that gender parity is also adopted in the administrative activities of the courts.

The new resolution modifies the policy to encourage the institutional participation of women in the Judiciary, establishing that the courts must have, at least, 50% women, including transsexual and gender fluid women, in these positions.
