In a court order published on Wednesday, Federal Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes ordered the owner of Network X to inform the court “within 24 hours of the name and capacity of X’s new legal representative” in Brazil , under penalty of “immediate cessation of social network activities.”
On August 17, Musk announced the closure of X (formerly Twitter) offices in Brazil, making the service available to users in this country.
Musk accuses Judge Alexandre de Moraes of threatening the arrest of his legal representative in Brazil in case of non-compliance with “censorship” decisions according to the social network aimed at blocking certain content.
In response to the judge, Musk said, “If we were to accept the secret (illegal) censorship implemented by Alexandre de Moraes and transfer his requests for private information, we would not be able to explain our actions without being embarrassed.”
In the name of combating misinformation, a judge in recent years has ordered the blocking of the accounts of influential figures in Brazil’s ultra-conservative movements.
