Brazilian President Jair Bolsonero was taken last night (Sunday) to a hospital in Sao Paulo for tests, after feeling an unusual stomach ache. The government told the media that “Bolsonero is getting along and more information will be provided later.” This was stated in a government statement issued to the media.
The hospital where he was hospitalized, is ‘Villa Nova Star’ in Sao Paulo, and according to reports, the president was hospitalized there in the early hours of Monday morning due to a bowel obstruction. According to the Reuters report, no release date has yet been set.
Bolsonero returned to the capital during the night from the New Year holiday on the beach and was immediately taken to the hospital. The Brazilian media quoted Bolsonaro’s doctor, Antonio Luis Macedo, as saying that Bolsonaro had abdominal pain. The doctor is the one who operated on Bolsonero after being stabbed at a 2018 political rally.
The doctor was on vacation in the Bahamas, waiting for a flight back to Brazil to check on Bolsonero. Since being stabbed during the 2018 presidential election, Bolsonero has undergone abdominal surgery several times. In July 2021 he was taken for treatment at the same place, after suffering from intestinal obstruction and other problems.
