According to data published this Friday (11) by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), Brazilian women spent 9.6 hours more than men per week on housework or caring for people in 2022.

This is the first time that this difference has been below ten hours in the study, which began in 2016. However, the reduction in inequality continues to occur at a rate considered slow by the IBGE.

The data is part of a module of the Pnad Continua (Encuesta Nacional por Sample de Domicilios Continua) on other forms of work. The focus covers unpaid activities that historically fall more on women, such as cooking, cleaning the house, and caring for children and the elderly.

In 2019, the previous year of the historical series, the difference was 10.6 more hours per week for them. Data collection for this Pnad module was interrupted in 2020 and 2021 due to pandemic restrictions.
