Rio de Janeiro: On the occasion of Brazil’s 200th Independence Day, the heart of the country’s first king, Pedro, arrived in the country from Portugal.

Portuguese King Tom Pedro granted independence to Brazil, which was enslaved under Portuguese rule, on September 7, 1822. Since then, Pedro has been celebrated as a king who can be admired in both countries as ‘Brazil-Portuguese’.

In this case, the heart of Pedro, who died in 1834, is almost preserved in a gold casket in a church in Portugal filled with a chemical called formaldehyde.

The heart is sent to Brazil every year on the national day of independence, September 7th. Both the countries are following this tradition. With just a few weeks to go before Independence Day, King Tom Pedro’s heart has been sent to Brazil.

Tom Pedro, who arrived in Brazil on Tuesday, was given a military honor for his heart. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro received it. The event was also accompanied by fireworks.

Speaking about this, Brazil’s Foreign Minister Allen said, “Through this event, we feel as if Pedro is alive with us.” Until September 7, Pedro’s heart will be in Brazil.
