Almir dos Santos Falls Short in Paris 2024 Triple Jump Finals
Saint-Denis, France – Almir dos Santos’ hopes of securing a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics ended in the triple jump finals on August 8th. Despite a strong performance in the qualifying rounds, the Brazilian athlete failed to achieve the necessary mark to advance beyond the eleventh position.
Ranked eighth in the world, Santos faced a tough field in the final, with several highly-rated competitors vying for the podium. Despite a strong first attempt, recording 16.41m, he fell short of the 17.06m required to progress. His second attempt was fouled, effectively ending his medal hopes.
“I knew I had to be perfect to have a chance,” Santos said after the competition. “But it wasn’t enough.”
This outcome marks a bittersweet end to Santos’ Olympic journey. Having finished 23rd in the Tokyo 2020 Games, he had shown promising form in the lead-up to Paris, claiming silver at the Pan American Games and gold at the Ibero-American competition.
Despite the setback, Santos remains optimistic about the future. With a personal best of 17.24m, he dreams of surpassing the 18m barrier and achieving even greater heights in his career.
