Despite their potential, the Brazilian rhythmic gymnastics team fell short of their Olympic dream. An injury to key member Victória Borges during warm-up for the mixed routine of balls and ribbons ultimately doomed their chances of reaching the final. The team, consisting of Victória, Maria Eduarda Arakaki, Deborah Medrado, Sofia Pereira, and Nicole Pircio, had arrived in Paris as one of the favorites to secure a podium finish.
Their performance in the qualifying phase was promising, with a score of 35.950 in the simple set of five hoops placing them in fourth overall. However, their hopes were dashed in the second performance, when Victória suffered a calf muscle strain during warm-up. Despite the pain, she bravely attempted to compete with her team, but her limitations were evident in the team’s final score of 24.950.
The Brazilian team finished ninth overall with a total score of 60.900, missing the final. The Bulgarian team emerged as the champions with a score of 70.400.
Throughout the Olympic cycle, the Brazilian rhythmic gymnastics team had consistently placed on the podiums at major competitions. Their performance in Paris marked the culmination of their efforts, and while they fell short of their ultimate goal, their journey was marked by resilience and determination.
