This weekend, breakages were reported in several mills in Havana, so, at least for today, December 25, the winery’s bread production, as well as other products, will be affected.

After three mills in Havana broke down in the early hours of this Sunday, which will affect the production of bread not only in the capital but in other nearby provinces, everything possible is being done to restore production as soon as possible, they point out. from state media.

This led managers of the Havana Milling Industry (IMSA) to visit the mills, to check the actions being carried out to solve the breakages.

But Havana is not an isolated case. If we move to Guantánamo, we can say that one of the causes of the lack of bread is the low availability of wheat flour.

In fact, the Commercial Director of the Food Industry in this territory, Dargis Serret Bairut, explained to the official newspaper Venceremos, that for three months the flour from Havana and Cienfuegos has not been received frequently, and therefore they cannot comply with the daily demand for the basic product.

When the flour arrives, it is immediately distributed to all municipalities, explains the directive, however, the production process lasts about 8 hours, and this causes delays in the marketing of bread at certain points of sale.

The situation is so worrying that the government is already planning alternatives with MSMEs to relocate workers in the state food sector, due to the shortage of wheat flour.

In 2024, it seems, the outlook will not change much, taking into account the government’s latest “economic package”, with reductions in some subsidies and increases in the price of electricity, water and fuel.
