A power outage on the Hendaye-Bordeaux rail axis, a priori unrelated to the heat, caused “significant delays” on Saturday in the middle of the weekend for the return of holidaymakers, announced the SNCF, with 400 travelers stranded several hours in the Landes.

A “power supply fault” between Labouheyre and Ychoux, about 70 km south of Bordeaux, occurred around 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning, interrupting traffic on one of the two traffic lanes. The other remained in service, allowing traffic to continue alternately.

“It’s circulating, with slightly longer journey times and cancellations for certain trains,” an SNCF spokeswoman told AFP, while the company reports delays of “up to 4 hours” for certain TGVs. The technical teams have started repairs, with a return to normal expected “around 6:00 p.m.”.

“The travelers have been transhipped”

At the time of the breakdown, a TER Hendaye-Bordeaux found itself blocked in the middle of the track and the 400 travelers on board could not be taken care of until around noon, said this spokesperson, confirming information from the regional daily South West.

“The travelers were transshipped, they were switched to another train. They were sent a little later, ”she said, while the Landes department was classified as yellow alert due to the high temperatures, with 32°C expected in Dax on Saturday afternoon. This breakdown is nevertheless “not related to heat”, indicated the SNCF. “It’s a technical problem with a cable component that failed. »

This third weekend of August is marked by many holidaymakers, the road information service Bison Futé having classified the day of Saturday red in the direction of returns.
