Bridgetown (Barbados): The T20 World Cup winning Indian cricket team finally left for Delhi on Wednesday by a special plane from Grantley Adams International Airport after being stranded for three days due to a category four storm. Air India’s special plane AIC24WC (Air India Champions 24 World Cup) took off at around 4.50 am local time and will reach Delhi on Thursday at around 6.20 am Indian time. Before the plane took off, Indian captain Rohit Sharma posted a picture with the trophy on ‘Instagram’ and wrote – Coming home. The Indian team, its support staff, players’ families and some officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and some members of the Indian media are on board the plane. This special flight has been arranged by the BCCI. The Rohit Sharma-led team won the title by winning a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the final on Saturday.
The Boeing 777, which took off from New Jersey in the US on July 2, touched down in Barbados at about 2am local time and airport staff said they had never seen a larger plane land at Grantley Adams International Airport. The airport resumed operations on Tuesday.
What is the schedule of Team India after reaching Delhi
- The players will meet PM Modi at 11 am. It is reported that PM will have breakfast with PM Modi and then he will felicitate him.
- After the meeting with the PM, the team will leave by flight for Mumbai where it has to participate in several events.
- The team will first take part in the Victory Parade, which will be held from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium in an open bus.
- After the Victory Parade, there will be a prize distribution ceremony where the BCCI Secretary will honour the players.
Earlier, the Indian team was scheduled to leave on July 2 at 6 pm local time and reach at 7:45 pm (Indian time) on Wednesday, but the departure was delayed due to the late arrival of the plane here. Within a few hours of reaching here, the players will be felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There is also a plan to organize a road show in Mumbai in honor of the victorious team that ended the 11-year drought of the ICC Trophy. Hurricane Beryl is now moving towards Jamaica.
