Breaking Takes Center Stage at the Olympic Games
The highly anticipated debut of breaking at the Olympic Games takes place this Friday (09) at 11 AM Brasília time. This thrilling competition will showcase the dynamic and acrobatic dance style that has captivated audiences worldwide.
The format of the competition is as follows:
Each direct confrontation is called a ”battle,” consisting of three “throw downs.”
Breakers start the battle by performing for a maximum of one minute. The other breaker then responds.
This process is repeated three times, with the winner of each round being determined by a panel of judges.
The athletes will be judged on three criteria:
Physicality: Movements and physical execution
Artistic: Creativity and originality
Interpretation: Connection to the music and emotional impact
The two breakers with the best performance in each group will advance to the elimination stage of the quarterfinals. The losers are eliminated until only the finalists remain.
While other sports feature music selection by the athletes, breaking utilizes a DJ who sets the beats and rhythm for the battles.
Unfortunately, Brazilian athletes will not be represented in the women’s and men’s breaking competitions at the Paris 2024 Games.
The competition will be broadcast on Olympics.com (with restrictions), TV Globo, Sportv, and Cazé TV. The detailed schedule is as follows:
Qualification – 11:00 AM
