Officer Killed in Shooting at Sheetz in Greensboro

An officer with the Greensboro Police Department was killed following a shooting at the Sheetz on Sandy Ridge Road, according to police. The incident occurred on Saturday around 4:04 p.m., officials with the North Carolina Highway Patrol Center for Missing Persons confirmed.

Authorities are currently looking for two suspects traveling towards I-40 West in a Chevrolet Equinox with the North Carolina tag KKA-4332. One suspect is described as wearing a black hoodie and black sweatpants with black shoes and a green/gray toboggan, while the other suspect is wearing a jean jacket with fur, gray sweatpants, and tennis shoes.

The Greensboro Police Department is urging vehicles to find an alternate route near the Sheetz on Sandy Ridge Road. A Blue Alert was issued in response to the incident but was later canceled around 7:52 p.m.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper offered his support, stating, “I spoke with Greensboro Police Chief Thompson earlier this evening, offering all available state resources to catch those who killed a Greensboro police officer. Our prayers are with the Greensboro police and family and loved ones. Every effort must be made to apprehend those responsible and bring justice in this tragic situation.”
