DECRYPTION – Two teams have made the tumor regress in patients suffering from this hitherto incurable brain cancer.

It is the most common and aggressive brain cancer. Glioblastoma causes approximately 3,500 deaths each year in France, which is more than melanoma. Incurable, it has no known cause but sees its incidence increasing each year with the aging of the population.

Two trials of innovative therapies, however, bring new hope: they have made it possible to reduce, sometimes completely, or to stabilize the tumor in patients. «These results are encouraging and suggest that some patients may achieve stabilization or prolonged disease control with these treatments.»notes Mehdi Touat, specialist in the disease at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital and at the Brain Institute (Sorbonne University) in Paris.
