BRESSANONE. An evening dedicated to those who travel by bike in the city, to safety and to the exploration of the recently created sections of cycle paths in Bressanone, brought together over 400 people in the city centre on Friday evening, all on bicycles.
It was the first “Bike Night” in Bressanone, animated by a spectacular light parade along the streets of the center and along the cycle paths that run through the city. The event, as mentioned, focused on the safety of those who travel by bicycle and began at 4:30 pm with the opening of a cycle workshop that offered small free repairs. All participants were then able to decorate their bicycles with aids to increase their visibility.
The youngest were then able to test a cycle path and taste local specialties during the refreshment offered in Piazza Duomo. From 7:30 pm, the long-awaited bicycle light parade began, which saw over 400 citizens travel through the streets of the center and the new cycle paths.
At the end of the event, everyone returned to the square for the big lottery that saw an e-bike awarded to the winner. The Cassa di Risparmio di Bressanone also collected one euro for each participant in the event to donate to a family in the area. 4 thousand euros were collected that will soon be given to the family of the farmer Hannes Messner of Eores, who died last June in an accident while he was checking his pasture.
“The Night on a Bike in Bressanone focused on visibility and safety for those who travel on two wheels,” stressed the councilor for traffic Thomas Schraffl. “It is important that all road users travel with caution and take others into consideration. Cyclists must ensure that their vehicle has working brakes, the correct tire pressure, a bell and is clearly visible, thanks to the front and rear lights. Those who drive a car, on the other hand, contribute to road safety by maintaining an adequate distance from bicycles when overtaking, giving them priority at intersections and, in general, adapting their speed to that of the cyclist in front of them.”
