BRESSANONE. The Municipality of Bressanone will spend another 3 million euros to continue with the third lot concerning the conversion of public lighting to LED technology.

The municipal administration has approved the implementation project of this new lot for the energy optimization of public lighting. The connections of the second lot are currently being completed, which involved via Laghetto, via Prà delle Suore and via Montessori, in the areas of the city’s school complexes; therefore, those for the third lot will soon be started, which will focus on the remaining areas of the city, with the exception of the historic center of Brixen, the hamlets of Elvas, Kranebitt and Millan.

The fourth construction lot, finally, the historic center of the city. The works started in February 2022 on the initiative of Asm and the request of the Municipality. In fact, there were a total of about 2,500 existing light points that still used traditional mercury vapor lamps. It was precisely these that were replaced with a further 3,200 new light points, a work divided into three lots that should be completed by the end of the year. The entire project, in fact, has a duration of three years and is co-financed by the Province of Bolzano.

Following the conversion, the current annual consumption of 1.75 million kWh of energy will be reduced to a requirement of 439,000 kWh of electricity per year. This saving corresponds to the average annual consumption of 325 families of four people, or 75% of today’s consumption.

Modern lighting increases safety, low energy consumption protects the environment and saves public funds. Not only that, at the same time, the new lighting will reduce light pollution because it can be precisely calibrated. Furthermore, thanks to the full cut-off technology that Asm has been focusing on for years, the light does not exceed the 90 degree angle upwards. In this context of work execution, the devices for the project ” are also being installedSmart City” with intelligent control of public lighting.

The light points are networked with each other, and technically this is done with an “Internet of Things” interface and its own IP address. This means that each light can be individually controlled remotely via fiber optics and adapted to its location and lighting conditions. Each light can be dimmed, switched off or amplified as needed. The light also sends its signal to Asm via an antenna, so that the electrical department staff is automatically informed when maintenance work is required and can plan it efficiently.
