Carlos Arthur Nussman jailed for bribing Olympic committee officials to select Rio de Janeiro to host 2016 Olympics Nusman was the head of the Brazilian Olympic Committee. The court sentenced Nusman to 30 years in prison. It is a crime to bribe the elites and influence them to get votes. Apart from this, Nusman has also been charged with corruption, tax evasion and money laundering.
Nusman, who chaired the 2016 Rio Olympics Organizing Committee, was found guilty along with former Rio governors Sergio Cabral, Arthur Soares and Leonardo Griner. Nusman will not be jailed until the appeal is settled. The investigation revealed that he had borrowed $ 20 million (Rs 14.8 crore) from businessman Arthur Soares for 6 votes.
