A bridge under construction in India collapsed for the second time in less than a year on Sunday in Bhagalpur, in the east of the country.

“We felt strong tremors and it was as if there had been an explosion. Later we discovered that the bridge had collapsed. This is proof that the government is corrupt.
The bridge has already collapsed earlier this year and yet no attention has been paid to its construction, ”denounces a citizen, Rakesh Kumar, to Reuters.
The suspension bridge is installed over the Ganges in the state of Bihar and was originally expected to be ready in 2019.

The construction has faced multiple delays, according to local media. It first collapsed on April 30, 2022 last year due to bad weather. Eight workers who were on the structure when Sunday collapsed were not injured, but a security guard is missing.
An investigation has been launched by the state government and a search has been initiated to locate the missing worker.
