‘Bridgerton’ season Four Sets Stage for Romance with Modern Soundtrack

The highly anticipated fourth season of Bridgerton, arrives on January 29, promising a fresh dose of Regency-era drama underscored by an eclectic mix of contemporary music. After a nearly two-year hiatus, the series will continue to captivate audiences with its signature blend of romance, scandal, and anachronistic musical choices.

A New Season, A New Love Story

Based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling novels, Bridgerton follows the romantic pursuits of the eight Bridgerton siblings. season Four shifts its focus to Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), whose connection blossoms at a masquerade ball. However, their burgeoning relationship faces obstacles rooted in societal expectations and the ever-watchful eye of Lady Whistledown (Nicola Coughlan).

The show has become known for its bold musical selections, seamlessly weaving modern hits into the 19th-century setting. One insider described the series as “sex-positive, petticoat heavy,” and celebrated for its “campy, purposefully anachronistic take on regency-era romance.” This season continues that tradition, promising a soundtrack as captivating as the storyline itself.

The Art of the ‘Needle Drop’

Music supervisor Justin Kamps, who has been with Bridgerton since 2022, emphasizes the importance of aligning musical choices with both the visual choreography and the emotional arcs of the characters. “Our goals are focused on finding songs that match the choreography,” Kamps explained. “As we start production, I like to have a conversation with our showrunner about what our characters are going to be experiencing.”

This season, Kamps and his team leaned into a “Cinderella story” theme, selecting songs that evoke a sense of wonder and transformation. The result is a soundtrack that is both “whimsical” and “unhinged,” according to those involved in the production.

A Preview of the Season’s Soundtrack

The premiere episode, “The Waltz,” will feature a string quartet cover of Coldplay’s “Life in Technicolor” by Vitamin string Quartet. This choice, Kamps explained, is intended to capture Sophie’s initial awe as she enters the world of the Bridgertons. “It’s something that she’s never experienced in her life,” he said.”We wanted something that matched that magical air of all these people arriving in these gorgeous costumes.”

Further episodes will include covers of Third Eye Blind’s “Never Let You Go” (also by Vitamin String Quartet) and Usher’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love,” performed by Toronto group Strings From Paris.Episode two, “Time Transfixed,” will utilize Taylor Swift’s “Enchanted,” while episodes three and four will feature Paramore’s “All I Wanted” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Bad Idea Right?” respectively. Kamps hinted that the latter track will accompany a especially “energetic moment,” filled with “a lot of bad ideas happening.”

A Two-Part Release

Following a recent trend among Netflix’s most popular series, Bridgerton Season Four will be released in two parts. Part One premieres on January 29, with Part Two arriving on February 26, giving fans ample time to dissect and enjoy the season’s musical highlights.

Kamps expressed his excitement for audiences to connect with the soundtrack. “Even though I’ve seen [the episodes] a million times, when I watch them back, I will start to get teared up listening to these covers and their scenes,” he said. “I’m excited for people to fall in love with them.”
