UC Davis Women’s water Polo Dominates at Triton invitational with Pair of Victories

UC Davis women’s water polo showcased a commanding performance on day two of the Triton invitational in La Jolla,California,securing decisive wins against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and San Diego State,fueled by a stellar six-goal outing from bridget Miller.

The Aggies entered Saturday with a 5-4 record and left with renewed momentum, demonstrating both offensive firepower and defensive resilience.

Game One: Aggies Overpower Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 12-5

UC davis set a blistering pace against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps,establishing control from the opening whistle. Bridget Miller instantly asserted her dominance, scoring three goals within the frist three minutes to complete a first-quarter hat trick and give the Aggies an early lead.

“We really focused on coming out strong and setting the tone,” a team spokesperson stated.

While the Athenas managed to score, UC Davis responded swiftly with a goal from Ashley Wallin, extending their advantage to 4-1 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw continued Aggie dominance, with goals from sadie Henry, Liberty Massen, and sofia Bozzo building a commanding 7-1 halftime lead.

The third quarter saw further offensive contributions from Madison SparreMiller and another goal from Henry, pushing the lead to an insurmountable margin.Despite a late push from the Athenas,scoring three times in the fourth quarter,SparreMiller answered with her second goal of the match,and freshman Addison Engelbert capped off the scoring with her first collegiate goal,sealing a 12-5 victory for UC Davis.

Game Two: Aggies Defeat San Diego State 11-6

The second contest of the day proved equally triumphant, as UC Davis faced off against San Diego State. The Aztecs opened the scoring, but Chelsea Johnson quickly leveled the match at 1-1. bridget Miller and Gianna nocetti then followed with consecutive goals, giving the Aggies the edge.

The first quarter concluded with UC Davis leading 4-3, after a back-and-forth exchange of goals. The Aggies continued their strong performance in the second quarter, with goals from Ashley Wallin and Ally Smith extending their lead to 6-4 at halftime.

San Diego State attempted to close the gap in the third quarter, but Smith responded with a crucial goal, maintaining the Aggies’ advantage. Sadie Henry also contributed, preventing San Diego State from gaining momentum. Hann Lina Abel Abel capitalized on the Aggies’ momentum with her first goal of the game late in the third.

Bridget Miller secured her sixth goal of the day to open the fourth quarter, and Lillie Vehling sealed the victory with a late goal, resulting in an 11-6 win for UC Davis.

Looking Ahead

The Aggies will continue competition at the Triton Invitational on Sunday, February 1, facing Michigan in the ninth-place match.
