Elected mayor vs. pact with criminals

The elected mayor of Chilpancingo (Guerrero), Alejandro Arcos Catalán, said that the government must assume the responsibility of providing security to the population, through more investment, equipment and training.

“It is the responsibility of the government, of the authorities, to provide security. There have been shortcomings due to the lack of infrastructure, but that does not exempt the government from its responsibility,” he said.

Following the statements of the archbishop of the port, Leopoldo González González, that the security strategy is a failure, Arcos Catalán said that the calls made by the Catholic Church to make pacts with criminal groups have worked, however, he ruled himself out as a mediator for the next administration of Chilpancingo./QUADRATIN
