Transport of goats and sheep banned due to ruminant plague

The Greek government yesterday banned the transport of sheep and goats after cases of peste des petits ruminants were reported in the country.

“The transport of sheep and goats for breeding, fattening and slaughter is prohibited throughout the country,” the Ministry of Agriculture said.

The animals were located before the first symptoms appeared. Greece usually imports sheep and goats from Romania, Turkey and Albania. / AFP
