The re-election of Morocco to this UN treaty body materializes the confidence of the international community in the action taken by the Kingdom, under the Very High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God help him, for the protection and promotion of human rights in their indivisibility and universality, indicates a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad.
This re-election also attests to the credibility of Morocco’s efforts to address global challenges hindering the populations’ full enjoyment of their economic, social and cultural rights, the press release added.
This commitment of Morocco has been illustrated in recent years by the launch of several socio-economic projects under the High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, including that of the generalization of social protection and the New development model.
Ms. Charafat Afailal is a recognized expert in economic, social and cultural rights, particularly in the area of water. As a former government official, she participated in the development and implementation of national and international initiatives aimed at ensuring universal and equitable access to this vital resource.
Established in 1985, the Committee monitors the implementation of the provisions of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights by States parties. This Committee is made up of 18 renowned experts in the field of human rights, elected by ECOSOC.
