This reception was marked by the presence of nearly 300 personalities from various backgrounds, including representatives of the Brazilian government, parliament and judiciary, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Brasilia, members of the Moroccan community established in Brazil and a host of academics, journalists, politicians and intellectuals.
On this occasion, the Moroccan ambassador emphasized the concordance of points of view between Brazil and the Kingdom, two countries that share the values of democracy and openness, on a number of subjects of common interest, notably sustainable development, migration, international trade, peace and security.
This bilateral partnership is manifested by diplomatic coordination, trade flows and scientific and technical cooperation, he said, recalling that the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch represented His Majesty the King at the inauguration ceremony of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, last January.
On March 30, he said, the foreign ministers of the two countries, Nasser Bourita and Mauro Vieira, discussed by telephone the excellent dynamics of the bilateral partnership, while Brasilia should host political consultations next September.
He said that the volume of bilateral trade has exceeded three billion USD in 2022, double compared to 2017, noting that the two countries are expanding their technical cooperation in many areas covering vocational training, renewable energy and agricultural research.
Royal Air Maroc should soon resume its flights between Casablanca and São Paolo, where the Moroccan National Tourist Office should also open a representation next October, he said.
Mr. Dghoughi noted that the bilateral legal framework was strengthened after the adoption by the Brazilian Senate of the framework agreement for cooperation in defense matters with Morocco, in addition to the signing, last June, of a memorandum of understanding between the Royal College of Higher Military Education and the Higher School of Defense of Brazil, establishing the general framework for cooperation in the field of higher military education between the two parties.
He stressed that the future of Moroccan-Brazilian cooperation should revolve around food security, evoking the importance of the role of the OCP and the maritime link thanks to the Tangier-Med port and soon the Dakhla-Atlantique port, Africa being a priority of the foreign policy of the two countries.
He assured that Morocco, which welcomes 13 million tourists annually, aims to increase the share of its renewable energies to 52% by 2030 and to 70% in 2050, at a time when the Kingdom is consolidating its competitive position in the production of green hydrogen.
The Kingdom, he continued, has constantly been a land of coexistence between all religions and cultures and a defender of religious tolerance throughout the reign of the Sultans and Kings of Morocco throughout history.
Regarding the national cause, Mr. Dghoughi stressed that Morocco remains committed to the efforts of the United Nations to achieve a political solution to the Sahara issue, through the autonomy initiative within the framework of national sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, which initiative continues to benefit from ever-increasing international support.
This reception was marked by the presentation of the Grand Cordon of the Wissam Alaouite to the former Brazilian ambassador to Morocco Julio Bitelli, at the end of his mission in the Kingdom.
